Restorative Gum Disease Treatments

Scaling And Root Planing

This nonsurgical, two-step deep cleaning is more thorough than a regular dental cleaning and is commonly used as the first treatment for gingivitis. In the scaling stage, Dr. Özge Sancaktar removes plaque and tartar from the tooth surfaces beneath the gumline. During root planing, she smooths the roots to remove bacteria and help the gums heal and reattach more effectively.

Gingival Grafts

Dr. Özge Sancaktar provides several types of gum grafts to help treat gum recession and restore healthy gum coverage. In a standard graft, a small piece of tissue is taken from the roof of your mouth or a nearby healthy area and placed over the receded gum. With a connective tissue graft, the tissue is collected from underneath the top layer of the palate. A pedicle graft uses tissue from right next to the recession, gently repositioning it to cover the exposed area. These procedures strengthen the gumline and help protect your teeth from further damage.

Gingivectomy

Gum disease can cause the soft tissues around your teeth to pull away, creating deep pockets that trap plaque and bacteria. During a gingivectomy, Dr. Özge Sancaktar removes excess or diseased gum tissue using a surgical scalpel or laser. Once the tissue is removed, the gums are carefully reshaped and secured to create a healthier, tighter fit around your teeth.
